ABOUT THIS ARTWORK
Walk into a nation of boundless freedom as you immerse in CITIx60 Amsterdam City Map rendered by Dutch illustrator Stefan Glerum. Entirely drenched in bold colours with bizarre characters swarming the city, Glerum’s map offers a grasp of Amsterdam life and contrasting architecture inside and around the old city centre that oscillates between realism and fantasy. Canal houses, entertainment venues, historic churches and Dutch nibbles are crafted into curious icons, appearing as a criss-cross of early 20th century visual art styles and modern digital art.
Amsterdam-based artist and illustrator Stefan Glerum has made a name for himself in recent years by creating exciting designs for the National Opera of Munich (Bayerische Staatsoper), The New York Times and the Lentekabinet Festival. Having spent four years studying illustration at the Academy St. Joost in Breda, Glerum has developed a distinctive style combining references from Art Deco to Bauhaus, Italian Futurism to Russian Constructivism, offering an interesting twist on popular themes.
CITIx60 Art Print Project is an extension of CITIx60 City Guide. Amsterdam City Map is specially produced as a creative collaboration for CITIx60: Amsterdam between viction:ary and Stefan Glerum, exclusively available on victionary.com. Selected city maps are available as limited fine art prints, numbered and/or signed, following the publication of the city guides.
