CITIx60 Taipei City Map captures Taipei’s essence and spirit in a Chinese gongbi influenced style. The intricately detailed watercolour/ink drawing highlights the preservation of its own culture whilst mingling with globalisation in a true East-meets-West sense. Little white houses are grouped together next to the ever growing trees, and chosen landmarks showcase the evolution of architectural styles from traditional to contemporary. Taipei 101, museums and Taipei’s signature night markets form a city overview, and as a whole the artwork presents a harmony between cultures, between urban and nature, between stillness and movement.

The exquisite piece is created by Taiwan-based illustrator Whooli Chen (Whooli means “fox” in Chinese), whose creations aim to transcend words and capture time. Part of the creative duo {sometime-else practice}, she has collaborated with the National Center for Traditional Arts, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Little White Lies Magazine and more, bringing onto the scene her characteristic style that ties the age-old technique of Chinese paintings with modern ideas, evoking poetic works that transcends the structure of realism.

CITIx60 Art Print Project is an extension of CITIx60 City Guides. Taipei City Map is specially produced for CITIx60: Taipei between viction:ary and Whooli Chen, exclusively available on Selected city maps are available as limited fine art prints, numbered and/or signed, following publication of the guides.
